"But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
Matthew 6:33 (NRSV)
Prodigal Thoughts: "All these things?" What things? Jesus is right in the middle of the Sermon on the Mount. He is teaching the crowd about how they should live in view of God’s commands. While the context of this verse mentions the basic necessities (food, clothes, etc) the overall theme is peace/blessing that comes with righteousness (right-living). If our focus is on God instead of ourselves, we will have little desire for worldly possessions. God does and will continue to take care of us. He has not left us alone, but is right there through it all. Anything we receive as a result of our right-living is a blessing. Life, in and of itself, is a blessing.
Prayer for today: Today, I pray that we would maintain our focus on following Jesus teachings and example. That we would truly devote our lives to loving as God has loved us and expanding the kingdom of God. Also, I pray that we would bless others with the blessings we receive, so they will know the love of the Father.
If you need prayer, please reply and I will pray for you. If you would like to talk about this verse or have questions, I’m always open for your feedback.
May God’s grace overwhelm you today…
