Verse of the Day – Proverbs 13:6

"Righteousness guards one whose way is upright, but sin overthrows the wicked."

Proverbs 13:6 (NRSV)

Prodigal Thoughts: In my mind, I’m picturing some of the fortresses from Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers called "Helms Deep". The soldiers are preparing for battle, putting on their armor, and choosing their weapons to fight the enemy. In this verse, righteousness (right living) helps to protect and make stronger the firm foundation of those who are on the side of the truth. The flipside of this is that sin doesn’t make someone stronger. It breaks them down and causes even more confusion. Life presents enough battles and challenges on its own. Adding more enemies (sin) just makes the battle even more demanding and draining on our souls. Right living gives life and strength. Sin takes those things away.

Prayer for today: I pray that we would find our solace, our resting place in living rightly for the purpose of the kingdom of God, rather than ourselves. That we would trust our lives and our very souls to the One who created us for His glory. I pray that we would run from evil, but when the time comes for battle, that we would do as Galatians 5:1 says and "Stand firm in our faith" for Christ has set us free. And if we are freed in Christ, then we are free indeed.

If you need prayer, please reply and I will pray for you. If you would like to talk about this verse or have questions, I’m always open for your feedback.

God’s grace on you…
